New books and back to work !

Bonjour !

Summer is over and it is time to get back into the studio for a new year of productivity. Actually I did work a lot this summer, I traveled a bit for sure but I was also working on this child book :

Book illustrated and written by Isabelle Arné for Titalbum

It is fully made in watercolor and I am quite proud of the result. Although it is written in French I highly invite you to have a look at the full book on Titalbum, it is free to read !

Don’t hesitate to give a good review to give a chance to my book to win the contest ! Yay !

Be sure I will talk more about my process and the illustrations inside the book in future posts. It was a real challenge for me to create this book and I felt how much I improved in watercolor.

But there is more ! Yes, I made the covers for 2 books, fully illustrated Soda pop drop and autumn is the time where new books get out in shops, so these 3 are now available to buy on Amazon.

It makes me so happy to see all these come to life, thanks to the authors to have trusted me with their book covers, and Mallory to let me illustrate all her book.

Find them :  Soda Pop DropMidnight Creek TalesSpecular

On top of that I am very glad to say that the Kickstarter by Tabulit that I talked about in a previous post is funded and my comic will be in it. I’ll happily wait for that ! What a good time 😀

I’ll have a bit of reading myself now.

Harry Potter cover redesign with Reedsy !

Bonjour !

Did you know ? I work a lot with Reedsy to create book covers and children books for self published authors.

Reedsy team came to me a while ago to re-create the cover of the first Harry Potter book to show how I made my covers from scratch.

This is how it ended up on the video they made :

I had a lot of fun creating this cover and it is always a pleasure to work with the team at Reedsy.

I was also extra glad to be able to work on such a book ! I’ve read the Harry Potter series when I was a kid and followed its publication really closely, I read the last one as soon it was out and in 24h ( sleep was not an option ! )

Check out the steps here :

After the concept step, I clean the illustration, not perfectly because I will colorize this illustration digitally and I will refine my sketch as I go but enough to see everything that will be in my illustration.

Harry potter sketch the philosopher's stone book cover

I then proceed to research my colors and see what will fit best the mood of the illustration

Harry potter, color test of the philosopher’s stone book cover

I went for number 3 as it a bit calm but also has a scary look with all that darkness around

Wich one did you like best ?

And then I proceed to do the full painting, I would advise you to give a look to the video above to see this process in more details :

Harry potter, final cover of the philosopher’s stone
Harry potter, final cover with lettering of the philosopher’s stone

And the final look, on a mock up to see how the book will look in the end, printed on a 6*9″ book.

I hope you liked the article !

Don’t hesitate to have a look at Reedsy if you are ever interested in self publishing and at my profile on their website.

à bientôt !

About me

Bonjour !

Welcome to this new and improved website. I’ve recently felt the need for changes.
If you’re new to this website, let me introduce myself:

I’m Isabelle Arné, I love illustration and it’s been my passion since youth and my work since 2013.
I live in the South of France and work from home on personal and client projects. I invite you to go through the gallery to see more of these. I’ve worked on various projects including child books, books cover design, comics anthologies and even some animated cartoons.

I’ve had a blog for a long long time but I’ve stopped it two years ago because of the lack of time I had and I have to say the growing time the social medias took me.
But I feel like blogging is very important to me and I want to go back to it, share with you some parts of my work, my experiences and my growth. It’s also something I’ve started shyly with Youtube but showing my face and talking is still hard to me so this blog will serve as a complement to these videos as well.

Feel free to go around the website and have a look at my artwork, you can also go read Radiant or have a look at my shop.

For commission, request or simple questions send me a message.

Don’t hesitate to comment and subscribe to the mailing list ( I will only notify you once a month if something happened 😉 )
